More about black ants in San Diego..
"Black ants" are extremely adaptable, displacing native ant species where ever they go. The worker ants are only about 3mm long and can easily squeeze through cracks 1 mm in size. These tiny ants nest several feet under ground, though they sometimes nest in cracks of concrete walls and boards.

Argentine ants also causes agricultural problems by protecting plant pests, like aphids from predators and parasites. In return for this protection, the ants receive a sweet excretion, known as "honeydew". Agricultural areas overrun by ants have large population densities of plant parasites. Unlike most species of ants, Argentine ants do not attack or compete with each other, further increasing their ability to infest areas.
Argentine ants are a common household pest, often entering structures in search of water or food. Typically during the hot season or to escape flooded nests during periods of heavy rainfall. Argentine ant colonies have many reproductive queens, as many as eight for every 1,000 workers, so eliminating a single queen does not stop the colony's ability to breed.
Fipronil pollutes ground water!
Our competitors in San Diego prefer to use Termidor in small hand tanks with wand sprayers. Termidor's active ingredient is a pesticide called fipronil. However, we believe that conservation of our environment is key. Fipronil has been banned in France for years because it wiped out the French honeybee industry. In Louisiana, it wiped out crayfish farms when it got into the water, resulting in a a $45 million settlement. Another group of farmers have recently filed suit for the same reason demonstrating the long term effects of poisoning the water with this pesticide. We refuse to use fipronil based products like Termidor for ant control. Fipronil is too toxic to humans, and its half life is so long that it has the ability to pollute ground water, streams, lakes and oceans.
