Cockroach control, a three pronged approach
We use a three pronged approach to roach control; spray pesticide, growth regulator and bait. Bait is a scented gel pesticide that the cockroaches eat and share with the colony. Spraying leaves a residual pesticide behind which the cockroaches travel over to pick up a lethal dose. Growth regulator is a hormone disrupter that affects the Cockroaches' ability to reproduce and grow. In effect, a cockroach sheds its skin like a snake and growth regulator blocks the pest's ability to perform this task effectively.
The German cockroach is about 1/2" to 5/8" long. It is tan to light brown, and has two dark parallel streaks running from the head to the base of the wings. Although it has wings, it is unable to fly. The German cockroach is one of the most common of household cockroaches. These insects are particularly fond of inhabiting residential kitchens, restaurants, food processing facilities, hotel rooms, and nursing homes.
German roaches are more difficult to exterminate once established!
The German cockroach is very successful at establishing itself in buildings, and is very resilient towards attempts to exterminate them. This is due to the fact they produce a large number of offspring from each egg case, that there is a short period between birth and sexual maturity and their ability to easily hide due to their small size. The mother also carries the egg case with her during the germination period, rather than depositing it like other roaches. This cockroach is also smaller than many other species so it can more easily hide and fit into very small cracks and crevices to evade humans.
The German cockroach is an omnivorous scavenger. They particularly like starch, sugary foods, grease and meats. In certain situations where there is a shortage of food, they will turn cannibalistic or turn to eating household items such as soap, glue and even toothpaste. This cockroach can be seen in the day occasionally, especially if there is a large population or if they have been disturbed. However, sightings are most commonly reported in the evening hours as they are nocturnal.
