High Volume Pesticide Spray Rig

Special Considerations

This is going to come across as stupid, but this rig is going to need to be attached to something, so a welder is preferred for frame building. However, you could drill holes and bolt one together just as easily. For those of you who hate winding, know that an electric reel does cost more to buy, as well as figure out how to run. In our example truck we stopped by Harbor Freight and picked up a battery kill switch and had it wired by a stereo shop. This is how we got power back from the battery to the reel without having to have a power source in the bed. You'll also need to install the relay and the switch so the reel works when you want it to. Oh and AN fittings are a real pain in the ass to work with. If youre going to use them, make sure you buy the more expensive ones, as summit racing brand AN fittings are total garbage. Hose clamps and black hose works fine for the rest of us. Finally, I am leaving the fill portion of the operation to you. In California you have to have either an air gap filler or a double anti syphon mechanism, and I don't want to get into state laws, so go look up what your state says.

Construction

This is easy, the Engine, Transmission and Pump are all one piece, so attach 3/4in ID hose to the suction side attached to the tank, and the pressurized side of the pump goes to the little pressure regulator you picked up from Schaben Industries. At this point there are two ports, one goes to the spray reel, the other to the tank. Heres a good image of what I was just talking about.Heres another shot as well from a slightly different angle.

You'll want to use 1/2in ID to the tank, and 3/4in ID to the reel. The reel attaches its hose, and the hose on the reel to the JD9 gun. Take the nozzle off with a set of channel locks, and put it in a facing up. Get a drill, and spit on the nozzle opening. Youll see right now its about 1/8in opening if not smaller than that. 11/64in. Drill bit will be needed here. Drill with very light pressure until youre through, take your time or youll be buying a new one. Now we cant call this JD9 a gun anymore, were going to call it a friggin cannon.
