Molting or shedding is very similar to how snakes grow. The insect simply cracks open its exoskeleton and a newer, larger insect emerges. Grasshoppers, crickets, spiders, roaches, ticks, bedbugs and cockroaches grow in this manner, heres a shot of the average cockroach life cycle;

As you can see, there are several stages that aren't hopping around the house yet. Since ants easier to take care of, and butterflies aren't a nuisance, Im going to focus on fleas. A typical flea infestation is about 50% eggs, 35% larvae, 10% pupae(cocoons) and only 5% adults.
In conjunction with regular pest control service, there are several things you can do around the property to ensure your flea problem is eradicated. As they say, cleanliness is next to godliness, and the same is true in this case as well. Vaccuming your home weekly will eliminate every form of non adult fleas. Treating your pets with products such as advantage or advantix will also help to control the outside sources of fleas such as dog parks, veterinary clinics and your back yard. If you have brush or debis against the house moving those a couple of feet from the house will prevent all kinds of pests from moving into the home. Finally, I like to reccomend home owners check thier vents and openings around the house once a year for holes. Wild animals such as possums, raccoons and ferral cats have a tendency to move into sub areas and with them comes fleas and other pests.
